Texte : Het menselijk lichaam is een machine vol dierlijke refl exen en signalen. Onze geest drijft dat prachtige instrument aan, maar wat stuurt onze geest? Birth of Prey observeert de routines, rituelen en lichaamstaal tussen roofdier en prooi. Wie is wat, wanneer en waarom? Welk effect hebben onze instincten op ons lichaam? Hoe afhankelijk zijn we van onze driften en (hoe lang)
kunnen we ze de baas? Birth of Prey is een ritueel over de wisselwerking tussen de rationele opdracht en de metafysische
emotie en over de constante metamorfose van het wezen.

De Kortrijkse Lisbeth Gruwez studeerde hedendaagse dans aan P.A.R.T.S en danste sindsdien o.a. bij Utlima Vez, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Jan Lauwers en Jan Fabre (met de verbijsterende solo Quando l’uomo principale è una donna). Met de steun van Cultuurcentrum Kortrijk en kunstencentrum BUDA maakte ze in januari 2007 haar eerste creatie Forever Overhead, die ondertussen nog altijd internationaal tourt.

The human body is a machine replete with animal refl exes and signals. Birth of Prey observes the routines, rituals and body language exchanged between predator and prey. How do our instincts affect our bodies and how dependent are we on primal impulses? Lisbeth Gruwez has danced with Utlima Vez, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Jan Fabre, among others. Here she presents her second own production.
